When will my coverage begin?
For routine or sick care, coverage will begin after a 60 day wait period while we obtain records and identify any pre-existing conditions, however, you will have limited accident care from the time your application is approved. Our 100% plan gives you full coverage from the time your application is approved.
What is considered "emergency "care?
Emergency care is care provided to an animal as a result of an injury or illness requiring immediate attention where the injury or illness, if untreated, can cause death or permanent damage and is not a result of owner negligence.
What is considered negligence and are any of these events covered?
Owner negligence is any action or non-action by the owner which is directly related to the accident or injury. Claims made where owner negligence is found to be the case will be handled on a case by case basis. Our main goal is to make sure your beloved pet is able to receive the necessary care without you having to make difficult decisions based on financial ability. An example of owner negligence would be chronic claims as a result of not having an adequately fenced yard resulting in the escape of a dog who ultimately gets injured. Note, this is a common occurrence and we are very aware of this happening even with the best efforts of the owner. This is why we specifically note "chronic" claims as first time claims for an example like this in itself will not be considered negligent!
How are claims paid?
This varies by plan. Because medical care provided to animals is unlike that of humans, it's difficult to create a "network" like one may have with typical human health insurance. Upon the completion and acceptance of your application, we immediately make contact with your veterinarian informing them of your coverage. We attempt to negotiate a billing protocol allowing us to pay them directly. Our 100% plan members get a special claims hotline where, in the event of an emergency or illness where the service provider demands payment immediately, we arrange for immediate payment via our company credit card or money wire as again, the 100% plan is meant to provide maximum coverage with no stress! Since most animal hospitals do require immediate payment, in the event your provider will not negotiate directly with us, we will reimburse you for any out of pocket expenses depending on your coverage level. Please keep in mind we will do everything in our power to work with your provider when you sign up with the hope of a protocol being in place before a claim ever needs to be made again giving you peace of mind. Most animal hospitals are more than willing to set up a direct payment protocol.
